Countdown and a Twitter rant

It's funny. It seem that all I ever do these days is countdown.

I'll countdown the minutes until lunch time - or better yet until I'm out of work. I'm counting down the weeks until I graduate - the number of assignments I've got to do until the end of the semester - or hey, how about the number of weeks until mid-semester break?

I count down the chores I gotta do each day, hmm - maybe I should count the number of times I check my Facebook page - but naw...

That's count up, not down!

I count down the days of the week, the months and the seasons.

It's not hard to add to that the counting down of the minutes until bed - in fact I think the only thing I never want to count down are the minutes until I wake up!!

So why all the counting? I dunno; I'm just doing it at the moment. Although I have a sneaking suspicion it's got to do with how much I want to be finished uni and just graduate.

Can't wait until I'm done. I know with the credit crisis and the recession and all, it's not like I can actually count (there's that word again!) on getting the job that I hope for, but to be honest, anything is better than uni at this present time!

Owell. I'll get there. Then I'll wonder way I ever wanted to stop being a student... >o<

Okay - change of topic. Twitter. The latest craze; the latest target for ranters against it (read any so-called self-respecting journalist's blog on the web and I'll bet you find a post about it); the latest pain-in-my-a$$-website.

Yup, I jumped on the Twitter bandwagon only to hop off it so fast that I fell over and bruised my derriere. (Ok, metaphorically here peoples!)

It's stupid. It's like the Facebook status posts without the Facebook. And seriously? It's not amusing. Instead of random, once a day-ish sort of status updates about things that matter (okay, in my defence, I know the FB statuses can be pretty lame/stupid, but sometimes they are actually cool/serve a good purpose) you end up with endless 'tweets' about utter twaddle.

Yes, 'Tweets'. The random sentences you produce are called tweets, and I've got to say that's the only redeeming feature about this whole set up. 'Tweets' is cute. Ie - I'm gonna go read so-and-so' latest tweet(s). Too bad that that 'tweet' is just like - "I'm bored. I'm gonna go play the PlayStation."

Just go already!!! It's not like the whole entire world (or the whole entire Internet rather) needs to know that! Or that you decided to walk your dog today even though you've got the sniffles! Who cares? I mean really??

So that brings me to my second point. Even though the name 'Twitter' and the thing 'Tweet'ing(?) is super cute, (even the website is cute) it builds up your expectations for something a lot better than what you get. Gee, thanks John Bloggs, I really needed to know that you crashed your car last night because you were pissed....

As the website self-proclaims:

"Twitter is on its way to becoming the next killer app." - TIME Magazine

You got that right TIME - I'll bet someones gonna go on a killing spree just 'coz they got over-tweeted with random crap!

Anyways, that's my rant for the while. Just joining another bandwagon - Those who hate Twitter.

Adios amigos! b. :3

Going nuke.

So, I know it's not a popular subject. But still, with the lack of forward progress on reducing carbon emissions - what do we do for alternative power sources?

Go nuclear.

Yeh, I know, I know. Not a good idea - or is it?

"Australians are against carbon emission reductions. Well they must be, and anyone who disagrees, please point out to me where all our nuclear power plants are? For those who reject the idea of nuclear power in Australia, consider this - Fact - if every country in the world had the same attitude as you to nuclear power then the planet would be totally screwed by now. In my opinion, we should have been building nuclear power plants that double as desalination plants all along, ever since safe Nuclear technology has been around."

Not my words, but I definitely agree with that statement. I just think that we are holding on to too many prejudices and fears - the same mistakes we make over and over again, and where do we end up? No further reductions, still following the same paths we've been walking for the last twenty years while our streams dry up and Australia suffers from the worst droughts it's ever had. Does it take the entire country to run out of water before we do something?

And what about recent developments in the nuclear physics fields? China have been making enormous break-throughs in nuclear reactor designs, but still the Australian people (and thus, the government) choose not to look at the options available to us via nuclear power.

I think if we really want to help the environment we need to start looking at all available avenues. And demanding more action! Just as I predicted, the whole 'concern for the environment' cards dealt out by Rudd during his election campaign just haven't been fulfilled. I know we're in the middle of an economic crisis, but that doesn't change the fact that we are also in the middle of an environmental crisis - one that has greater ramifications than the economic one (as unbelievable as that might sound) and one that had been going on for longer, with far less concern from the powers that be.

If my ranting offends you, apologises. But please people, let's get our act together before it's too late. What the point of saving the world from the credit crunch if there is no earth to support business full stop?! Guess that would throw the spanner in the works, but no one thinks of that now do they...

Ciao, b.

25 Random Things About Me... (Like anyone wants to know...)

Whether anyone cares or not - here's the latest FB craze. Write down 25 random things about yourself and bore people to death... Fun!

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you. (To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click post.)

There will be one difference to mine though - I'm not going to torture any of my friends and tag them.... Okay - maybe one or two just for the heck of it!

1. I can't stand it when people are late - appointments, meetings, even just for casual hang outs... But for all of my problem with it; I am continuously doing the whole "Kiyyyaaa - I'm-so-late!!" dash. Go figure.

2. There are three things in life that I can not do to save myself:

~Bowling (I always come dead last and break at least one nail...)

~ Navigation (Anyone who rides in my car when I'm driving will experience the fun of reversing from traffic lights 'coz I'm in the wrong lane, or squealing around a corner 'coz I just about missed the turn off - or on the likely hood that I actually DID miss the turn off {this happens much more than I would like it too!} random U-turns whenever and where ever I can. Yup. I'm a crazy driver.)

~ Math (Do not ask me to do it, because without a calculator or my fingers and toes it just will NOT happen. Seriously.)

3. One of the things that I MUST do before I die is ride a cow. I've ridden horses of all descriptions and sizes, I want to ride an elephant when I go to Thailand, and I've ridden in cars, trailers, tractor scoops and on boats (speed and a ship), ferries, trains, aeroplanes, a motorbike and a quad bike. And merry-go-rounds and rollacoasters! I've even been in a hot air balloon (but didn't go any where) and basically, besides all of that list: I just want to!

4. I'm going to get my rally car drivers licence. Probably not that soon, around my 25th bday I think, so when I get my super-sweet car I'll be able to thrash it. Sweeeeet!

5. And, on that note - I hate Volvos. (The cars, not the biscuit). They suck hardcore.

6. And country/western music... Ick!

7. And wasps - they are seriously creepy! I think it's because they can fly, so you can never be sure if they are stalking you, or even if they are around half the time, so basically they freak me out.

8. On the other hand, I love spiders (particularly Huntsmans 'coz they are really pretty close up) except when they are on me. Then they have to get off.

9. I'm addicted to music and tea. (Particularly Jasmine tea, but I'm not fussy) I can't live with out one or the other or both at least once a day. Mmmm... Tea....

10. Animation/Cartoon and Dance/Musical are my favourite genres of movies. Put them together (like in Happy Feet) and you've got me - hook, line and sinker!

11. I get cold really, really easily. Apparently I have shocking circulation.

12. I'm a closet Aqua fan...

13. My "Most-shameful-tv-program-that-you-can't-help-but-be-addicted-too"? Er... ANTM. Nope, I won't decipher the acronym. If you really want to know, find out yourself! I told you it was shameful... =^.^=

14. I get blisters from like, ninety percent of my footwear, but I wear my shoes anyways because I am addicted to shoes. I guess that makes me a bit masochistic though...

15. I hate shark fin harvesting. Yes, I also care about the whales, but if someone was to ask me what regular act of cruelty conducted for money/as business really gets my goat - it would be that. I just can't stand the fact that hundreds and thousands of sharks have their fins cut off and then get chucked back in the sea to either drown (sharks swim to breathe) or get eaten alive. I think it's disgusting.

16. I have stayed up all night on many an occasion just to finish my book, or a series of books.... I can't help myself! I'm addicted to books. Someone check me into rehab - I have way too many addictions to be healthy!

17. I once cartwheeled down a church aisle for the sheer sake of it. I did the same in the Attorney-Generals Department of Defence building. Yep, the AGD. For the sheer sake of it.

18. I love haute couture and bargains. So yes, if I was a squillionare, I'd be saving half my money and spending half of the rest (exaggeration - maybe just one eighth or something) on Jimmy Choos, Chanel, D&G and the other part of that eighth on Valley Girl camis, JayJay's t-shirts and sale rack shorts!

19. It is my goal to go to as many museums and art galleries around the world as I can. I will drag my unsuspecting fellow travelers along for the ride, so beware!

20. I get paranoid whenever I pack up and go (from home, work - even a bus stop) that I've left something behind! I guess that paranoia has stopped me from loosing all my stuff when I was overseas though, so I'd call it a bit of a blessing in disguise.

21. I have insanely sensitive skin so you can tickle me absolutely anywhere - but don't touch my neck if you want to live.... I can't stand people touching my neck - just thinking about it gives me the heebeejeebies.... *shudders* Yuck.

22. Someone once thought my name was Barbie. -______- I wasn't impressed.

23. I have never had an imaginary friend. I think with three sisters I probably had more than enough playmates not to bother!

24. I'm an avid collector - stamps, coins, jewelry, shoes, hats, books, teapots - random bits of junk. I have the best excuse too - I'm an artist and I need all that stuff for reference! :D

25. If I'm away from home - I miss the stars. Funny, but true. When I was in the Northern Hemisphere, I hated looking at the night sky because I'd get homesick. The Southern Cross, the Milky Way, Orion and Scorpio - and other constellations that I love but don't know; I really miss them when I can't see them.

So there you go - twenty five strange and random facts about me that I'm sure you didn't want/didn't need to know, but whevah*....

It's strange how different we human beings are. I mean I just listed 25 things about me, and there are hundreds more things that make me; me and not someone else. (Duh) I think that's the great thing about meeting new people, or even just D&M-ing* with friends. There is always more than what meets the eye. ...

That's cool. Anyways ciao peeps;

On coming

Or should that be 'in' coming as in 'incoming traffic'? Maybe!

Uni starts all too soon, but thankfully before we go there - one more 'holiday' coming up! Fam. is going to the beach for a week or so, and I'm so looking forwards to my good book and whole bunch of swimming.

Speaking of books, can't believe I forgot to blog this, but for those who have insanely great memories for uberly boring details, you might remember that I've mentioned once or twice this novel I've been co-authouring with my sister over the last six or eight years.

Yep, it's finished! Of course, we have a gazillion miles of re-writing and polishing to do, but the final copy/draft has been completed!!! Yayz! The epic date was Saturday the 24th of January, 2:43pm in the year 2009.
It only took us three complete re-writes, dozens of false starts and aeons of plot-changes to get here, but we said we'd do it and we have... Next stop - the movie script! .... I ain't joking either....

On my way to Holliwood baby,

Happy New Year!

Happy new year peeps! I did write up my new years activites (including the visit to SummerNats) and how drool-worthy all the cars were, but somehow the post was lost and I can't be @r$3d re-writing it, so this is as much as yer gonna get.

Have a good one! b.

P.S - Got an inkling of a feeling that this year might be evener crazier than the last. Stop the world I want to get off! :3

Tuesday, December 16

Post it - around the world

Wish I could post myself outta here - stamp me up and send me off!

Send me to Tokyo - did anyone besides me watch Clarkson spending through Japan in a gorgeous red number? Speaking of fast cars - can't believe SummerNats is on the New Years weekend this year!

I've been moaning about the fact that I'm gonna miss it this year. I'm away at the beach - which by itself is an awesome deal. I sure don't want to not hit the sand and surf, but at the same time I really want to see some major gut-thumpin', adrenalin-powered beauty on wheels - ie, the glorious spectacle that is the 'Nats.

My BFF's bf is thinking of going on the Sunday, but I've heard that's the worst time to visit 'coz by the end of a three-day drinking fest {which it is for most of the patrons that attend the show}, things can get more than a little out of hand. So I'm wondering - if he goes do I attend or not? Hmmm.

*shrugs* Will decide later I guess.

January and February are shaping up to be very busy months for me - but I love it in the summer time when you're rushing around having good banter and business. It just makes things so interesting and fun.

Somehow summer sun is infectious - I always end up doing so much over the summer holidays. Mind you, I'm generally a busy person no matter the season anyway.

Newest quote that I love?

"Your mood swings are giving me whiplash!" - Bella, Twilight. {the movie}

Honestly - I could quote that to more than one person at the moment. Forget car accidents - I should be suing over changes of mind and attitude - it's enough to make your head spin! Funnily enough it doesn't bother me that much any more. Sure it just adds to the craziness, but I've decided that I've got to make things work myself. I can't wait around for everyone else to get their act together, 'coz that just ain't happening.

Running away from the circus, b.

Friday, December 12

Smeh.

Smeh - a term meaning 'so meh'; pasted together like all good 1337, ie - Leetspeak.

Meh also being offically a term for disinterest or bordom. Basically I can't be bothered!

So if your smeh - you really really really can't be bothered I guess...

I really really really can't be bothered. Everything takes so much effort - but for what? At least work is good. I like work. You do the things that need to be done, and at the end of the day, you see the results of your 'blood, sweat and tears'. Ah... So satisfying.

Tea is also good! I've become so addicted to the stuff - nothing sooths the soul like a warm, fragrant cup of Jasmine tea. Heh - if anyone who reads this is familiar with Avatar: The Last Airbender show; let's just say that my level of addiction is up there with Uncle Irohs!

Those that aren't look it up on Wikipedia (something else I'm loving when I'm bored) and you'll hopefully get what I mean.

Random topics of subject, but I guess that's the way my brain is working at the moment. Hop, skip and jump around. It's easier than remembering that I haven't gotten any of my Christmas shopping done yet!! O! Fiddlesticks!! Guess that's my Saturday morning mapped out!

Adios mi amigos, I'll ttul - b. out.

~* The Three-Ringed Circus *~

Okay - you may be wondering what's up with the title - but seriously, it will take bit to explain.
There are many things that I feel like my life - or has been. An adventure, a trial, a chance - a journey of living. But, let's face it. I've been in the center of it - please don't think badly of me, but really, it is my life... Isn't it?
What if I pack up and move to the central point on the edge of everyone else's lives? Heh - I'll tell you what; I become the ringmaster in the middle of a three-ringed circus!
See I told you I'd explain... Hmmm, does it make any sense though?
I guess if you think of three circle overlapping - intertwined as it where, the point in the middle of those circles is on the edge of the circles, but still in the center... Centerfugal forces spinning around and I'm caught in the middle. It's pretty much certain that whatever ends up happening - it's still going to be a while off. In coming missile launch!
It's kinda good to feel, that although my world around may not yet be the stable, but things are firming up beneath my feet. I'm sick and tired of walking on quick sand!

Roll up, Roll up, Roll up - watch the greatest show. More entertaining than anything under my hat (ie, in my life) - behold the three-ringed circus!!

Kiya!

5 weeks until Christmas and all the insane madness that comes with it...

Where did the year go? I think that almost every year I write something about time passing and how it flies by. Except this year I'm actually more thinking along the lines of times to come and how quickly things change.

Although the first half of this year was an amazing experience - I'd have to say that coming back has been even more of an experience - although it hasn't been nice, just as much character growth has been instigated.

It's really crazy though how your outlook changes as life happens. I don't know that it's always such a good thing to 'grow up'. For example, I used to get all excited about plans and hang out times, but now I'm so cautious about letting myself be excited just in case it doesn't happen, or even just in case plans and stuff don't live up to my expectations. I find that sad. Why do we have to loose our childhood joy and innocence?
Friends are not supposed to be people who hurt you. Life is supposed to be new and exciting. New days should be welcomed, not dreaded....

I realized that I must sound so cynical and jaded. It's really rather horrible to think this way. I know I've got move past this and I will. It'll just take time.

In the mean while, I hope the new year brings new things - good new things! I guess it's a chance to keep trying to change stuff around you, a chance 'start over' as it were.

Don't really want to start over - I just think that things will change. Hopefully for the better! It's kinda crazy when things are shifting all around you - walking on quick sand takes talent.
One that I've had to develope rather quickly!

Sooooo - what will the new year bring? Heaven only knows. In terms of global outlook I think we are set to see a lot of changes between the credit crisis and the in-coming of President elect Barak Obama. These things in turn will effect Australia, but for some reason I don't think this country is on the brink of change. Some how it seems to be sailing on calmly. I may be wrong, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Interesting times to live in I suppose. "It's all fun and games until somebody gets hurt. And then it's just fun!"

Friday, November 14

So if?

So if the sky was to fall tomorrow what do you think would happen?

I'm thinking that we'd get a better view of the stars! And burnt to utter crisp when the sun comes around again..... O.o'

Erm. Why am I ruminating on this subject? No reason! ^_^ Guess summer's in my head atm. The weather is warming up, but I'm just wondering what's going to go down next year. I know, I know, Christmas comes first. But most of the time for me stuff happens after Christmas - 'coz that's when the partys really start!

New Years looks to be interesting this year. We've even got a family holiday coming up. BEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! XD

I'm so looking forwards to soaking up the rays; maybe even getting a good bit of banter in as well.

I guess we'll see how we go.

But tell me this who loves the new low petrol prices?? *waves hand* Mememememememe!!!

I was totally over the whole "Can't go road-tripping because of full prices" anyway - I was all: "Dude, fuel always going to be expensive, here's the tool kit, build a bridge and get over it. Why stop doing something you like to do just 'coz it costs more than it used too?" So I've been sticking to my just-go-cruzin' policy and now it's even better 'coz for a short sweet moment I can actually not squeek at petrol prices.

Credit crisis = bad. Credit crisis > low petrol prices + banter + beach = very much goodness. Yay!

I'll leave you with this last thought -

*sings*

"Shut up and drive/
drive/
drive!"

Ho-hum.

Sunshine and lollipops... dumda-de-dah-de-ddah....

Spent the last week or two dealing with craziness and more craziness. I tell you what, traveling might be fun - but seriously, before you go anywhere for an extended amount of time, take into consideration whether or not you are prepared to deal with change when you come back.

To be honest, I'd already thought of that before my sister and I had headed overseas, but we both never dreamed that our world wouldn't just change, but shatter into a million irreparable pieces.

It's so hard to take in, and really, all you want to do is run away from it all. Far, far, far away....
But one step at a time, take just one step at a time and things will get better. They have to 'coz I can't live like this much longer!

On to a much nicer topic - I had my first hip-hop dance class this week and was so pleased when I managed to do it alright. I mean, it's easy enough to dance to your own beat, and even to do it well enough to look good - but dancing to someone elses choreography - that's when things get tricky!

One thing I didn't do so well on - turns. I really need to practise my turns. But other then that; I was doing non-beginner routine work in my first class. *whheeee* *is happy* I just love to dance.

Spent my public holiday chillaxing with friends - had some time at Pine Island in the sun. Mmmm, yummy sunshine. It was a bit of a shock when we got there though, the place was crawling with teen-i-boppers. Droves of boys trying to be cool by swearing their heads off and swimming in the icy-cold water and flocks of girls giggling and whispering on the sand.

Rather reminded me of swarms of ants at a picnic actually... Hard to believe that so many of the pre-teen crowd could fit in the same place, but once you went away from the 'main' beach it got better. Suppose they where as happy to see us 'older' crowd scuttle off as we where happy to do the scuttling!

So it was sunshine, than after my class I met up with my friends again - we went and saw "Death Race". That movie is seriously cool! Ok, I will admit that it was far too gory and violent in some places for my tastes (if it had've been at an M level, I would have liked it better, but that's just me personally) - but the rest was awesome!

Okay - fast cars, and even better, guns!! There were some decent plot twists, not all that surprising, but enough to keep you interested, and they didn't play on graphics to much. Really I thought it was put together well if you like the violent/car/thrashing sort of movie.... Come to think of it, it really is a total guys movie. You end up coming out going "Now I want to drive my car home.... FAST". Sweet dude! *mwhhaaahhhaa* I can just picture BoB with a mounted machine gun... My car would look soooo cool.

Anyways, that's it for now. B. out.

Mischief and Mayhem

My two favourite words - mischief and mayhem. Wanna know why? 'Coz translated they just mean good banter!

After contracting a serious case of "C.P.S."-itis (Clearly People Suck) on Saturday, I was relieved when a cure swiftly marched in. I rode Copper out Sat. arvo. and it was great - (he jumped like a stag), but not only that, Plans Where Concocted. (*mwhaahaaaaahhaaaa* Partner in crime, M.M., Mega-Genius, helped the whole deal along substantially, but I'll get back to that.)

Bt, Em-J, Random and I hit the Cotter caves after I got back from riding - it was later in the arvo., but still light enough to explore a bit. We took torches, but weren't really impressed with the shortness of the cave access. You went about two feet in and stopped. = p Stupido.

But we still had a good time, trotted up to the top of the hill, shook off swarms of flying ant-y things and drove home in time for food!

Then, the night was upon us and it was time for the Fraser Girls and The Boys to go bush. We stopped and shopped for supplies, which didn't take long. (Got to ride in the REXyyyyyyy!!! [Super sweet Suburu WRX - owned by Saunter. Was v. happy when he drove it fast. Would be even happier if at some point he was driving it faster and we were sideways.. .. ^^ I just gotta need for speed baby!]).

Anyway, I digress. All seven of us piled into Sabi-master's ute and our Land Rover that Dad had reluctantly allowed me to drive out and headed out into the bush.

(Another side track - how much do you love the fact that Canberra has so much accessible bush land? We do!)

We hit some caves and held our breaths as the Boys went over the top of some very high bars that blocked off a very large drop... *meep!* Saunter, Sabi-master and Mega Genius disappeared into the depths whilst J-man, Random, Em-J and myself went and explored some other not-so-exciting places. I still managed to get myself stuck and was 'rescued' by the J-man, but owell - that's me for you. I either get myself out of the sticky situations or someone does it for me!

We soon got bored of the whole place though, there wasn't much to see - so we piled back into the trusty 'mobiles and headed west. Tell you what - dirt track driving is super fun and kinda scary at night!! Espec. with a twelve ton Land Rover that doesn't like to stop at interchanges at the best of times, let alone on a dry gravel track that's twice as steep and half as wide!

*rubs hands* Brilliant!! I guess I can say that the Rover has officially been christened as more than just an urban assault machine, it has moved up another level to official off-roading(but yet has to make it to the bush-bashing crown). We crossed a creek and the water came up over the bonnet and for one heart-stopping moment only water was illuminated by the head lights, the the beam reached no further than splashing liquid - pitch black and I couldn't see in front of me! Yyp!!

"For Frasers alike - charge!!" Full steam (sort of of - more like steady steam actually) ahead, and we had officially completed our first creek crossing that was more then just a puddle. Swweeeet dude! (Totally.)

We found a cosy place to further our banter-ous activities and basically... Well, had fun! Let's just say there was some marbles, juice bottles and Irn-Bru involved. 'Course, I won't be telling the half of it, but we managed to keep ourselves amused. Discussions of 'Top-Gear' and blowing up stuff - particularly caravans, was high on the list, and the quote of the night belongs to the penguins.

"Ka-boom?"

"Yes Rico, Ka-boom!!"

Like they say, 'It's all fun and games 'til somebody gets hurt'. Well, none of us had that problem, it was more 'something' in this case. Of course, when you're out driving at night the most serious hazard is Kangaroos. (yep, with a Kapital 'K'!) Close on the heels of Roos is Wombats. Not drunk drivers, not hooning idiots, not even other cars, but Roos.

We saw a lot of Roos, missed by inches a few wombats as well. All was fine until we where heading home. It was a clear road and then - there was this Roo. That's all. Thump. Crunch. Dead. The boys had to finish the poor thing off and I was all "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! What am I going to tell Dad???"

Dad turned out to be reasonably fine about it, but I doubt he'll ever let me take the Rover out again. = p Which totally sucks.

Kind of a bad way to end the night, but it was still great and we had a blast. Literally. It might be totally forward of me to say, and so-not-going-to-happen, but I'll say it anyway. I can't wait to do it again!

Cheers, b. :3

P.s - Super great way to celebrate a birthday too!

*lol*

* Rules are like paperclips: meant to keep things together, fun to bend, and easily twisted out of shape.

* There is no problem the human mind cannot solve or create.

* Step One is learning the ropes. Step Two is chewing through them.

I like number one - sounds like it should be my new motto eh? 6-6.... ^^ ! So much fun!!

Ciao b.
