This new-to-me dress is what I wore when the Husband and I went out on a date to see The Avengers. The movie made me even more keen to see Captain America because Rogers {Steven Rogers, a.k.a Captain America, that is} looks awfully smart in his 1940s leather jacket and vintage style! I keep on wondering what other lovely 1940s costuming that movie has in store for me, so it is currently on the top of my ‘To Watch’ list, although Brave is close behind. It looks like fun, and I adore Celtic lore, music, and dance. Must be that Gaelic Scots blood running wild again!
Of course, talking about Scottish love brings me in full circle to my darling plaid dress. Out of all the mad eBaying I have been doing recently, this dress is really the only winter appropriate vintage I have picked up. Mind you, it’s not actually that great for staving off the cold as the fabric is only thin cotton, but I love the muted colours, and I really felt like a proper bonnie wee lassie all geared up in my tights and tartan. : D
Now I just have to restrain myself from collecting more plaid clothing ~ at least for a little while. My dress budget is well and truly used up for the next month or so! Any and all shopping will be strictly of the window variety for the time being.
Which leads me to wonder ~ does window shopping work for you? I find that it can when I am on a shopping ban, but I have to be careful not to find anything that I absolutely love or that ban often gets broken! So tell me, what shopping ban methods work for you?
xox,

Oh you must see Captain America! I have a total crush on him so I might be biased but I really liked it! The 40's styling, hair, makeup, etc was amazingly done. As for window shopping, it only ever works if I leave my money at home :P By the way, your cardigan is perfection! Ive been searching for a pattern like that for ages but no luck. It's just like one I found at a thrift store last winter. x Brittany

Great cardigan ! And yours nails are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Flo! I have a thing for nail art; it's just so much fun. : )
ReplyDeleteThe plaid looks utterly gorgeous on you.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid the only type of shopping ban that works for me is an outright ban. It's actually quite effective - I went for several months this year without buying anything but a seriously discounted pair of shoes. Now I try to restrict myself to buying things only if I really need something.
Ha, I think you might be right about the total ban method Katie! I have been saving my pennies for some gear for my horse and I bought it today. I also went and bought a new purse that I've had sitting open on my monitor for weeks now.
ReplyDeleteTo be sure, I do actually need a new bag, but once you start I guess it's hard to stop - hence the necessity of the total ban! > O <
I admire people who make their nails ! I won't do it because my hands are deshydrated and prone to allergies :/ and I don't want to attract attention to them.
ReplyDeleteHowever this doesn't prevent me of pinning funny and cute nails on my pinterest boards. Like this one which may be my favourites : mermaid nails : http://pinterest.com/pin/171136854560512158/
Love the cardi with the dress- a must here in the UK!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to hear a review of the movies too.
I find window shopping a little frustrating really- it's always when I'm broke that I see something I like and when I have some funds there's nothing available. I usually keep a little in 'reserve' to avoid this potential problem- I find it works!!

Oh I love your nails!!

Thanks Britney! I love doing my own nail art; it's seriously fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI just love that last picture of you! It looks as if you could just fly away.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I despise window shopping. It just end up depressed. My shopping ban is rather anti-feminist in a way...I simply hand over my debit card (I do not have any credit cards) to my husband who keeps it for "safe keeping" until my bank account has accrued more funds.
That's totally what I was going for, so I'm glad that's what cme across! > <
ReplyDeleteAnti-feminist-anti-sheminist! I think that's a really good idea! Although, if the hubs was to control ALL of my spending, he'd have to disconnect me from the internet. To be honest, that's where I do the most shopping these days - I just can't resist etsy! ; ___ ;
