This is the second outfit I have put together that forces me to step out of my style comfort zone and try something new ~ mismatched prints!
I usually stay away from brightly coloured prints in general ~ let alone putting two coloured prints that are very distinct together. So I never thought when I brought these two pieces that I would pair them up. However!
I like how the two floral prints seem to compliment each other, even though they are both very different. I think the trick is with this is to have a dominant colour in both the prints that matches.
In this case it’s the pinks in the top and skirt that echo each other even though the blouses’ pinks are lighter than the skirt, they are still a similar shade. It is same with the blue backgrounds of the prints as well.
Of course, seeing as this is the first time I have ever put two prints together; I am no expert so experimentation is probably better than taking my word for it!
~ Stepping Out Details ~
~ Differences to my normal style: Obviously the mismatched prints, but also the untamed hair.
~ Similarities to my normal style: The belted waist, or rather, what is left of my waist{!} and the feminine feel, i.e., skirt, shoes with bows on their toes and the pretty floral fabric.
Accessories ~ Belt {came with skirt} Top ~ Tempt Skirt ~ Tempt Shoes ~ Tightrope
I was really inspired by Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky when pulling together this style. I figured that if she can mix her prints and pull off some amazing outfits; then I could too. That is also why I let my hair go a little nuts ~ I wanted to see if I could do the ‘big curl’ look.
Do you think I got it right?
xox,
bonita
P.S. ~ This is also my second go at using a tripod/timer to do my outfit shoots. All I can say is; I wish I had a camera remote!
Mismatched prints make me go all gooey inside :) I think you look great! You've done it so well as the print size is the same on each piece so it flows as much as it can. Next step? Florals and stripes!
ReplyDeleteI took a step out of my comfort zone today actually. I went charity shopping, as per usual, but I bought things that I'd always look at and like, but would never think I could pull off if you know what I mean? But after searching for vintage beauties on ebay and realising everything I wanted to buy was exactly what was in the charity shops, I went for it! It always feels good to do something different huh? :)

I think it looks great and you look gorgeous bonita! you can't even tell the differences in the patterns. The outfit looks like it belongs together! Hope your pregnancy is going well. Take care
ReplyDeleteYou lol fabulous and the outfit works well. Now, you, a pregnant lady balancing precariously on stones for photos made me shout 'oohhh, you be careful!' x
ReplyDeleteLook fabulous!!!! Stupid iPad.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures look amazing! Love the outfit, I didn't even realize it was separate pieces until I read the text. The mixed patterns match nicely! ;)

Thanks Tazz! Florals and stripes eh? Now that would be a challenge!! O
ReplyDelete___ O I am not sure I am ready for that; yet I am oddly excited to give it
a go.... We'll have to see what I can manage. It might take a while for me
to gather up my courage though.....
Yes, I like taking style risks every once in a while ~ it's fun! I am
positive about the styles I like, so mixing it up once in a while really
helps when you just want to take a break and go for something new. Who
knows, you might love that too!
Thanks Nicole! Everything is going as well as it can be. :D I cannot wait
ReplyDeleteto meet my baby!
Thanks Lottie ~ actually it felt safer to be balancing on those stones that
ReplyDeletethan my last outfit shoot up in the tree {should I be admitting that??}.
But rest assured, I am being super careful; my balance is all out of whack
so I know I can't muck about like I used to be able too. : D
The prints look great together and I think your hair looks amazing like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie; ^ u ^
